Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Deep Learning Engineer to join its perception technology team in Melbourne. This role focuses on researching, designing, and implementing state-of-the-art perception capabilities for autonomous and non-autonomous platforms, with emphasis on real-time, edge-deployed deep learning solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and develop cutting-edge perception capabilities from conception through field deployment
- Deploy AI stack to edge devices and optimize for embedded environments
- Collaborate with other deep learning engineers to architect and scale deep learning operations
- Stay current with academic literature and contribute to R&D initiatives
- Mentor junior engineers and researchers in computer vision and deep learning
Required qualifications:
- 3–5 years of industry experience delivering deep learning solutions for computer vision problems
- Strong expertise with convolutional neural networks and/or transformers for classification, recognition, or segmentation
- Hands-on experience with Foundation Models
- Proficiency implementing novel deep learning architectures using TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, or similar frameworks
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or related field
Preferred qualifications include publications in top-tier venues (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML), C++/Python development expertise, knowledge of object detection, SLAM, 3D reconstruction, vision-language models, and experience deploying models in embedded production contexts with optimization techniques like pruning and quantization. MLOps experience is also valued.
