OpenAI's Industrial Security team is seeking a Senior Special Programs Security Manager to lead security operations for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP). In this role, you will serve as a Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) or Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO) for government customers, managing the full lifecycle of classified programs including access administration, facility accreditation, security planning, incident reporting, and inspections.
You will build and maintain trusted relationships with Intelligence Community and Department of Defense customers, translating complex government regulations, contract requirements, and security classification guides into practical policies and operating procedures. Key responsibilities include overseeing the establishment and accreditation of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs), coordinating with personnel security, information systems security, facilities, legal, and program teams to establish integrated safeguards, and leading self-inspections and corrective actions.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep expertise in special programs security. You will advise senior leadership, independently represent the security function, mentor developing security personnel, and enable classified work through risk-informed decisions while maintaining authority to escalate or stop activity that violates security requirements. The role demands sound judgment navigating the intersection of mission needs and security requirements, with occasional travel and additional onsite presence based on program and customer needs.
The position is based in San Francisco or Washington, DC with a hybrid model (three days in office per week). Candidates must hold active Top Secret eligibility, current SCI access, and a current counterintelligence polygraph at application, with ability to obtain additional customer-required accesses including full-scope polygraph if needed.
