GitLab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in NLP to build and deliver autonomous, agentic software development lifecycle capabilities. In this role, you will lead technical execution on AI-driven features that automate engineering tasks such as merge request authoring, test generation, and security remediation. You'll develop and deploy AI agents integrated into GitLab's platform, which serves over 50 million registered users and more than 50% of the Fortune 100.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building autonomous, agentic software development lifecycle features aligned with GitLab's product roadmap
- Developing and deploying AI agents that automate complex engineering workflows
- Collaborating with Product, AI/ML teams, and other engineers to translate requirements into iterative solutions
- Writing clean, maintainable code and conducting thorough code reviews to ensure quality and safety of agentic workflows
- Building and maintaining orchestration patterns and safety guardrails for AI services
- Measuring and improving performance, latency, and correctness of AI-driven features using evaluation frameworks
- Participating in on-call rotations and debugging complex issues involving AI services and autonomous agents
- Contributing to documentation, playbooks, reusable libraries, and mentoring other engineers
- Adhering to GitLab's security, compliance, and data governance standards
You should bring production-grade software engineering experience, hands-on expertise with AI/ML APIs, large language models, or agentic frameworks in web development contexts. Proficiency in modern languages (Ruby, Go, Python) and experience with distributed systems, CI/CD, developer tools, testing frameworks, and observability tools are essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions are required.
