ARQ is a fast-growing fintech building cross-border payment infrastructure and financial services. The company is on a mission to redefine how people interact with money globally, with a focus on financial inclusion.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems powering ARQ's innovative products. You'll work on greenfield development and improvements to existing systems, collaborating with a talented team to create solutions that transform how people manage their money.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building REST APIs and engineering microservices
- Evolving critical business systems including card payments, treasury management, transaction booking, and crypto liquidity
- Writing clean, maintainable code with emphasis on test-driven development (TDD) and domain-driven design (DDD)
- Contributing to continuous integration and delivery practices
- Collaborating across teams to solve complex technical challenges
The technology stack is primarily Java 25 on the backend with PostgreSQL, leveraging Spring Boot for rapid and quality delivery. The role offers the opportunity to shape product, culture, and growth at an early-stage, high-impact company.
Office policy: 3-4 days per week in-office in London.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrable experience in backend development with fluency in Java
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other Engineering/Science disciplines
- Quick learner with ambitious, results-driven personality
- Excellent communication skills (English fluency, verbal and written)
- Track record of building complex products used by millions in hypergrowth startups
