Camunda is an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration that coordinates AI agents, people, and systems across complex business processes. The company is trusted by over 700 organizations worldwide, including 9 of the top 10 US banks, and is recognized as a Visionary in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies. As a Senior Software Engineer on the new Data Streaming team, you will help build foundational architecture that transforms how customers and internal products access process data. Currently, customers lack a first-class way to stream their process data out of Camunda into their own systems. You'll be part of a greenfield team building a durable, continuously-written streaming layer that decouples data consumption from the live engine. Key responsibilities include: - Design and build core streaming infrastructure that decouples process data access from live execution, backed by durable, low-cost storage - Build customer-facing data streaming capabilities, including integrations with systems like Kafka for reliable process data delivery - Rebuild how Camunda's analytics product consumes and serves process data at scale, moving it off the engine's critical path - Make foundational architecture decisions as part of a small, high-ownership team, including consistency and durability guarantees across distributed streaming pipelines - Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations, investigating production issues and feeding learnings back into the product You bring 7+ years of backend engineering experience in Java with strong focus on distributed or data-intensive systems. You have hands-on experience with object storage systems (S3/GCS/Azure) and building reliable, idempotent protocols. Kafka or similar streaming/event-log experience is required. You demonstrate solid grounding in distributed systems fundamentals and a track record of driving technical initiatives through ambiguity in evolving systems. You've led medium-to-large engineering initiatives (3+ months) end-to-end, from solution design through predictable delivery, with strong communication skills in remote-first environments. Nice-to-haves include experience with Apache Iceberg, Parquet, lakehouse/data-lake architectures, embedded state stores like RocksDB, stream processing frameworks like Apache Flink, and object-storage-native streaming architectures.
