Hinge Health is a digital health company delivering evidence-based solutions for musculoskeletal pain through personalized exercise therapy and virtual care. The Financial Systems team builds and operates the billing and financial infrastructure powering Hinge Health's revenue operations across products, payers, and internal workflows. You will join as a Senior Backend Software Engineer focused on high-impact financial systems where correctness and reliability are paramount. Your responsibilities include designing technical foundations for billing and financial workflows, improving data traceability for money-related operations, and enabling seamless experiences for members and customers as the company expands into new products like HingeSelect, introduces complex payment models, adds multi-payer integrations, and grows globally. Key accomplishments in this role: - Deliver large projects across billing and financial workflows, often serving as a maintainer for critical code repositories - Design and evolve reliable services, APIs, and data models for revenue-critical systems including billing flows, payment-model changes, payer integrations, and financial data movement - Build for correctness and traceability through clear data ownership, durable workflows, idempotent processing, strong validation, and actionable audit signals - Break down complex cross-functional problems into manageable tasks, enabling steady delivery while resolving root causes of incidents and data discrepancies - Collaborate with Product, Finance, Operations, Data, and partner engineering teams to define requirements and roadmap technical strategy - Improve maintainability, availability, performance, and observability of financial systems, including developer tooling and operational runbooks - Mentor and support junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and knowledge sharing - Communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical partners - Integrate AI technologies to automate engineering and operational processes while preserving appropriate controls for financial workflows Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent); 5+ years full-time professional software development; 4+ years with at least one programming language; 4+ years across full software development lifecycle; experience delivering large projects in production; proficiency in modern languages (Golang, Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript); experience designing and operating backend services, APIs, data models, and distributed workflows; experience with relational databases where data integrity and observability matter; demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally. Preferred: experience with billing, payments, revenue, accounting, or financial systems; familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, workflow orchestration, and scalable cloud services; experience with Golang, Python, gRPC, Postgres, Redis, Temporal, AWS; experience improving data quality and operational visibility; mentoring experience; AI technology experience. The tech stack includes Golang, gRPC, AWS, Postgres, Redis, and Temporal with trunk-based CI/CD. Production systems must meet healthcare standards including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA compliance.
