Hinge Health is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Backend to join the CareHub team, which builds the unified platform where care happens at Hinge Health. CareHub equips physical therapists, health coaches, care managers, and other care teams with tools to deliver personalized, high-quality musculoskeletal care. As CareHub 2.0 evolves, the team is modernizing the platform to improve performance, scalability, and user experience while introducing AI-powered capabilities that simplify workflows and increase operational efficiency.
In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable software solutions that directly improve member health outcomes. You will work closely with cross-functional partners including product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver new capabilities and enhance the maintainability, reliability, and performance of products. You will help advance Hinge Health's mission to transform joint and muscle care through technology, contributing to AI-driven solutions that automate workflows and improve care delivery.
Key responsibilities include: delivering large projects that introduce new product capabilities and acting as a maintainer for key code repositories; breaking down complex problems into manageable tasks while identifying and resolving root causes of incidents; collaborating with your team to roadmap and execute ambitious technical strategies; mentoring and supporting junior engineers through thoughtful code reviews and pairing; designing and building AI-powered clinical agents using LangGraph.js for stateful orchestration; integrating LangSmith for end-to-end AI observability including prompt versioning and automated tracing; developing and maintaining agentic workflows that leverage LLMs (Claude Sonnet via AWS Bedrock); contributing to the Member-Centric Knowledge Graph and RAG-based retrieval systems; proactively improving maintainability, availability, and performance; and communicating technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.
Hinge Health operates in a continuous deployment DevOps culture with owner-operator pride in supporting code in production. Production systems use React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, Docker, Rails, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Apollo, and Redux. Engineering workflow follows trunk-based CI/CD with security and compliance standards meeting healthcare requirements including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.
The role is Bengaluru-based and hybrid, requiring 3 days/week in office. It involves regular interaction and collaboration with Hinge Health colleagues in San Francisco, CA. Applicants should be open to meetings in late evening India Standard Time to align with San Francisco working hours (8am - 6pm PT). San Francisco is 12 hours and 30 minutes behind India Standard Time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 5+ years of non-internship full-time professional software development experience
- 3+ years of work experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Experience with AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor
- Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment
- 1+ years of hands-on experience building applications with LLMs, including prompt engineering, model integration (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, AWS Bedrock), and evaluating AI output quality
- Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, or similar orchestration libraries for building stateful, multi-step AI workflows
- Familiarity with LangSmith or equivalent AI observability/evaluation platforms for tracing, prompt management, and regression testing of LLM-powered features
- Understanding of responsible AI practices including PHI/PII handling, guardrails, and output validation in healthcare or regulated environments
Preferred:
- Experience with AI technologies for software design and coding assistance
- Experience mentoring or onboarding junior engineers
- Familiarity with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or scalable architectures
- Experience with healthcare technology or regulated environments
- Backend engineer with exposure to Node.js
- Experience hosting solutions on cloud platforms like AWS
- Experience with Agile development practices
- Hands-on experience with LangGraph.js for building composable subgraphs, conditional routing, and checkpointed state management in production AI systems
- Experience with LangSmith Hub for prompt versioning, A/B testing prompt variants across environments, and building CI-gated evaluation pipelines with golden datasets
- Experience with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures, vector search, or embedding-based retrieval systems
- Experience building multi-agent orchestration systems using Temporal, LangGraph, or similar frameworks for durable, human-in-the-loop workflows
