Base Power is rebuilding America's electricity grid through distributed battery networks and software infrastructure. You'll join the team building BaseOS, the operating system that coordinates thousands of distributed batteries, powers internal operations, and enables reliable, low-cost electricity delivery at scale.
In this role, you'll own critical systems that directly impact how power flows across the grid. You'll design, build, and operate core services with end-to-end accountability for reliability, performance, and long-term direction. Your responsibilities include setting architecture and standards across teams, making foundational decisions on system design and service boundaries, and raising the bar for how the organization builds and ships software.
You'll work across the full stack in Golang and Python, designing workflow systems (using tools like Temporal) that manage deployments, device control, and operational processes across a growing fleet. You'll treat infrastructure as a product, using Terraform and AWS to build reliable, repeatable systems at scale. A key part of the role is working across domains—partnering directly with hardware, deployments, and operations leadership to solve problems that don't fit neatly into software, turning real-world constraints into clean system design.
You'll mentor less-senior engineers, set the pace and technical bar for the team, and make decisions with imperfect information while taking responsibility for outcomes. This is a high-ownership role where you'll step into ambiguity rather than wait for it to be resolved.
Required: 6+ years of professional software development with a track record of owning production systems others depend on. Deep proficiency in a backend language (Go, Python, Java, or similar), real experience building and operating distributed systems in production, and fluency with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and containerization. You should have experience with infrastructure as code, sound engineering judgment under ambiguity, and a track record of cross-functional leadership. Bonus skills include IoT systems, real-time control systems, workflow orchestration, or DevOps at fleet scale.
