Deliveroo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Golang) to join the Support Engineering group, which builds internal tools and operational systems powering customer, courier, and merchant support at global scale. The team operates across 30+ countries, supporting millions of users and partners.
You will design and build high-throughput, low-latency backend services using Go that power Deliveroo's internal support platform, including an in-house chat system handling ~5 million conversations monthly. Your work will directly impact how support teams operate globally, enabling them to resolve issues faster and more efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining high-throughput backend services in Go
- Collaborating with product, design, and frontend teams to ship features for internal support agents worldwide
- Designing scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems
- Leading architectural discussions and technical decision-making
- Writing well-tested code and maintaining high code quality standards
- Participating in on-call rotations with a pragmatic approach to reliability
Required qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of building and scaling complex systems
- 2+ years of production Golang experience with ability to mentor others and drive best practices
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, particularly Cassandra
- Solid understanding of designing and operating low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems
- Previous on-call experience and pragmatic approach to incident management
Nice-to-have skills include Node.js or other backend languages, and familiarity with AWS/GCP cloud infrastructure and event-driven architectures.
