Celonis is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java) to join the Provisioning & Licensing team in Munich. This high-impact role demands significant autonomy and ownership, with responsibility for the core provisioning pipeline and strategic Self-Managed Platform Solution for regulated environments.
You will own complex technical problem spaces end-to-end, from architecture through production delivery. The Provisioning & Licensing team serves as the critical "glue" between business functions and the core platform, owning latency-sensitive internal APIs for automated tenant creation and a Feature & Configuration system (microservice configurator). The team is central to the organization with touchpoints across engineering and business teams like Licensing Management.
The tech stack is modern and cloud-native: Java 25, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and a modular monolithic architecture with strongly enforced module boundaries. You'll work with containerization, Kustomize for deployment files, GitHub CI, Kargo, and Datadog for observability.
Key responsibilities include: independently owning significant portions of development from architecture to delivery; contributing to the Self-Managed Platform Solution by implementing components and tooling; having a strong voice in technical vision and strategy; continuously improving scalability and reliability while upholding latency SLAs; and collaborating with other engineering teams (Identity, Platform) on broad-impact projects.
The role requires 7+ years of professional experience building high-performance Java systems, deep expertise in cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, and on-premise deployment patterns. You should be comfortable with complexity, thrive on architectural contributions, and want to own systems that directly enable multi-million dollar market expansion.
