Bitwarden is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to own and operate Bitwarden Gov, a FedRAMP-compliant cloud infrastructure serving government and enterprise customers. This role is critical to maintaining the security, reliability, and compliance posture of a government-focused password management and secrets management platform.
You will take full ownership of Bitwarden Gov's cloud infrastructure across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), with responsibility for availability, performance, change management, monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning. Key responsibilities include: designing and building new infrastructure; implementing site reliability tools, monitoring, and observability systems; responding to infrastructure outages as part of a 24x7 on-call rotation; conducting architectural design and engineering at scale; participating in code reviews and incident management maturation; and managing ongoing vulnerability assessments and security remediations.
Required qualifications: minimum 5 years of FedRAMP (Moderate/High) experience including continuous monitoring and vulnerability management; production incident response and on-call rotation experience; strong cloud networking knowledge (CNI, Istio); expertise with multi-region deployments across AWS/Azure/GCP; demonstrable production Kubernetes experience (managed services, Helm, kubectl, kOps); proficiency in at least one programming language (C#, Python, Go); experience with cloud deployment automation (GitOps, Terraform, Pulumi); and AI fluency with AI-assisted tools.
Nice-to-haves include distributed monitoring experience, data engineering background, startup experience, open-source contributions, and prior SaaS experience. This position requires U.S. citizenship due to FedRAMP compliance and government-restricted work requirements. The role emphasizes security best practices, discretion with sensitive information, collaborative problem-solving, and enthusiasm for open-source security innovation.
