Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking services, payments, cards, accounting, and cash management tools for startups and technology companies. We are seeking a Senior Sales Manager to lead and scale our startup sales business line.
You will own the complete startup sales strategy, driving execution and results from Series A+ startups. Working directly with the Head of Sales, Director of Revenue Strategy, and cross-functional GTM and product leaders, you will operate with substantial autonomy as a general manager for this business segment. You will manage the Startup Sales Manager (who leads Account Executives) and the Venture Ecosystem team, bringing together SDRs, AEs, Venture Ecosystem Sales, Revenue Strategy & Operations, Partnerships, and Marketing around a unified plan.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting strategy and priorities across segments, markets, pipeline creation, and conversion, with a clear operating rhythm that keeps teams aligned
- Combining proven SaaS sales practices (outbound, qualification, deal management, forecasting) with in-person founder and investor engagement, events, and portfolio programs
- Raising execution quality through coaching, reporting, and standards-setting for discovery, deal strategy, and follow-through
- Driving customer activation and usage across Mercury's full product suite (deposits, payments, cards, financial operations)
- Leading cross-functionally with SDR leadership, Revenue Strategy & Operations, Partnerships, Marketing, Product, and post-sales teams
- Hiring, developing talent, improving workflows, and bringing customer and market insights into sales motion decisions
Success is measured by startup sales results (new customers, gross profit, pipeline health, activation), venture ecosystem results (opportunities and customers from founder/investor work), and strategic execution (clear priorities and effective cross-team coordination).
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience selling foundational software and financial products into growth-stage startups, including to founders and finance leaders
- 4+ years of people management experience
- Deep understanding of the venture ecosystem (investors, accelerators, founder communities) and how they influence startup decisions
- Proven track record leading quota-carrying sales teams and developing both team leads and experienced individual contributors
- Ability to build disciplined SaaS sales motions while leveraging in-person relationships strategically
- Comfort with autonomous decision-making, aligning teams you do not directly manage, and adapting quickly in competitive markets
