Scentbird is building out a formal R&D function for the first time and seeking a Senior R&D Chemist to own formula-based product innovation across the Scentbird and Drift brands. Reporting to the Senior Director of Technical Innovation & Engineering, you will be the technical authority on formula chemistry and feasibility, working alongside a Device Engineer to evaluate new platforms and technologies.
Key responsibilities include: owning all formula R&D across device-based and non-device products; discovering and evaluating new suppliers and raw materials (e.g., Firmenich, Cosmo) for base formula technology; setting technical requirements and capability parameters before Product Development designs around them; approving or rejecting technical feasibility on formula-only platforms; partnering with Product Development on olfactive sign-off; validating long-term effectiveness for functional products (e.g., cleaning efficacy); reviewing the existing portfolio to identify performance improvement opportunities; and establishing formal R&D processes and SOPs from scratch.
You will also spec requirements for Scentbird's future dedicated R&D lab and own supplier relationships for new base formula technology before handing off to Product Development for ongoing olfactive work. This is a hands-on role that combines technical chemistry expertise with cross-functional collaboration, vendor management, and infrastructure building. The role is onsite at the warehouse in Somerset, NJ.
