As Senior Program Manager for Vehicle Configuration & Change Control, you will own the complete system of record for hardware and software configuration across all R&D vehicles. This includes defining the configuration data model (hardware revisions, sensors, compute, firmware, software versions), establishing capture processes that keep records accurate against development assets, and designing change control workflows that enable rapid testing.
Key responsibilities:
• Configuration System of Record: Own the as-designed, as-built, and as-running configuration for every platform. Define data models covering item/revision structure, effectivity rules, and platform abstractions across different vehicle types.
• Configuration Capture: Design how configuration data is captured at the point of work (build, modification, service, software updates) through existing technician and engineer tools. Own record accuracy as a measured metric with defined audit methods and cadence.
• Release & Campaign Eligibility: Establish criteria for determining which vehicles are eligible for software releases, test campaigns, or data collection missions, with clear exclusion reasoning.
• Data Provenance: Define how logged data and test results tie to the configuration that produced them. Partner with software and data teams on validation and training workflows.
• Enterprise System Integration: Define configuration requirements for PLM, ERP, MES, and inventory systems. Own integration design between these systems and the configuration record.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with vehicle integration, manufacturing, autonomy, software release, safety, supply chain, and operations teams to resolve conflicting requirements.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in engineering, computer science, or related field with 3+ years in technical program management, technical product management, or engineering program management (equivalent hands-on experience considered). Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a technical program or internal system with sustained adoption. Experience in environments reconciling physical asset and software state (autonomous vehicles, automotive, EV, robotics, aerospace). Working knowledge of engineering change management, BOM structure, ECR/ECO workflows, effectivity, serialization, and as-designed-to-as-built reconciliation. Working knowledge of software configuration and release management (version/build identity, update paths, parameter management, fleet-wide reporting). Experience designing operational processes and measuring adherence. Strong written communication for technical and executive audiences. Must work onsite five days per week in San Francisco with regular garage/machine time and some travel to deployment sites.
