Salary: USD 160,000 - 200,000 / annual
Temporal is an open-source programming model that simplifies code, improves application reliability, and helps developers ship features faster. As a Senior Professional Services Engineer, you will partner directly with customers and partners to move from design to production-ready Temporal implementations quickly and safely.
You will deliver end-to-end production implementations by co-building initial workflows with customer engineering teams, teaching production-safe patterns (retries, timeouts, heartbeats, determinism, versioning), and helping customers stand up and operate Temporal Server in both cloud and self-hosted environments. You'll define worker deployment strategies, scaling guardrails, upgrade approaches, and failure handling protocols. A key part of the role is establishing observability and reliability standards—defining metrics, alerts, and dashboards for workflows, workers, and Temporal Server.
You will create repeatable runbooks, templates, examples, and documentation that improve delivery quality across engagements, and lead hands-on workshops and training to enable customer engineers to operate independently. You'll own complex technical delivery issues end-to-end, partnering with Support and Platform Architects to reduce escalations to Engineering, and provide actionable product feedback based on real-world implementation patterns and failure modes.
You bring experience delivering and operating production systems where reliability and incident response are critical. You have a strong understanding of distributed systems, failure modes, scaling tradeoffs, and operational safety. You code fluently in at least one major language (Go, Java, Python, TypeScript) and have hands-on experience deploying and operating production services in cloud and self-hosted environments. You can design and communicate operational standards, work directly with customers in high-stakes moments with a calm and credible approach, debug complex issues, and teach other engineers. Nice-to-haves include experience with workflow orchestration, observability programs, reference architectures, and services delivery models at scale.
