Salary: USD 250,000 - 280,000 / annual
Mesh is a fintech infrastructure company enabling consumers to pay and be paid with tokenized assets. The company combines an orchestration engine with a consumer app to unlock liquidity for crypto payments, backed by PayPal Ventures, Paradigm, and Galaxy Ventures.
You will serve as the primary legal advisor to product, engineering, and design teams, embedded from concept through launch. This is a hands-on, in-house role requiring practical, risk-based advice at startup speed.
Key responsibilities include:
• Advise on privacy and data protection by design, including GLBA, Safeguards Rule, US state privacy laws, and GDPR for EU operations; shape data flows, consent, minimization, and retention strategies.
• Own product intellectual property matters: open-source software license review and compliance, third-party IP clearance, trademark strategy and portfolio management, and patent strategy coordination.
• Advise on financial regulation as it applies to features: US money transmission and state licensing, BSA/AML and sanctions, crypto/digital-asset and payments frameworks across operating regions.
• Advise on consumer protection, including UDAP/UDAAP, required disclosures, fee and marketing practices, and user-facing terms.
• Draft and negotiate product-related terms: user agreements, product disclosures, and partner/vendor integration terms.
• Partner with Compliance, Information Security, Marketing, and Regulatory to align product decisions with licensing posture and risk appetite.
• Build scalable processes for product legal review, risk assessments, and clear sign-off paths that keep pace with a fast roadmap.
• Track regulatory and enforcement developments affecting the product and translate them into actionable guidance.
Required: JD and active bar membership in at least one US state; 6+ years relevant legal experience with significant in-house product team advising; experience in fintech, payments, crypto, or regulated tech; working knowledge of privacy, data protection, and software IP (open-source licensing, trademarks, patents); working knowledge of US financial regulation and ideally crypto/digital-asset regulation; practical, risk-based style with strong cross-functional collaboration.
Nice to have: Privacy certification (CIPP/US or CIPP/E), exposure to EU/UK/LATAM/APAC regulatory regimes, experience scaling legal functions in high-growth companies.
