Planet operates the world's largest constellation of imaging satellites and seeks a Senior Product Manager to own Defense & Intelligence (D&I) Tasking Solutions. In this hybrid role (3 days/week in San Francisco or Arlington), you will bridge Planet's core Tasking platform with defense mission offerings, owning the Tip-and-Cue system and Tasking Strategy Engine—products that translate complex mission rules into optimized satellite collection commands. You will partner closely with Forward Deployed Engineering teams in the field to identify recurring integration patterns and convert them into generalizable, reusable platform capabilities rather than one-off custom builds. Your work directly impacts pixel-to-insight latency and mission effectiveness in high-consequence defense environments. Key responsibilities include: defining how customer configuration-driven logic translates to sensor and constellation selection; converting defense business rules into dynamic tasking strategy designs; consolidating inputs from field engineering, GTM, and adjacent product managers into a prioritized roadmap; ensuring D&I tasking requirements are represented in the shared platform roadmap alongside Commercial Tasking, Constellation Services, and Real-Time Insights teams; collaborating with compliance and security on export control and national security adherence; and delivering seamless end-to-end user experiences with adjacent D&I Solutions PMs. You bring 6–8 years of technical product management experience bridging core platform and field teams, with solid understanding of tasking, scheduling, workflow-orchestration systems, and enterprise integration patterns. You excel at separating generalizable platform capabilities from one-off customizations and translating operational rules and domain-specific business processes into system workflows and product requirements. Background in geospatial intelligence, satellite tasking, or defense technology is required. You have a proven track record prioritizing backlogs across competing demands, presenting technical trade-offs to both engineering and executive audiences, and independently owning roadmaps spanning multiple concurrent priorities. Standout candidates bring hands-on satellite operations experience, orbital scheduling APIs, constellation orchestration, or event-driven machine-to-machine architecture knowledge; experience scaling vertical product layers on shared platform infrastructure; active or prior U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or TS/SCI); or direct operational background within the U.S. Defense & Intelligence Community. This role requires access to export-controlled information and ITAR compliance.
