LanceDB is seeking a Senior Product Manager to shape the product strategy and roadmap for their open-source, developer-friendly data platform for multimodal AI. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure and product, working directly with the CTO and engineering leadership to define the platform's direction.
In this position, you will take high-level strategic direction and drive results across the company. Day-to-day responsibilities include shaping the product roadmap in collaboration with the CTO and engineering leadership, conducting deep dives into competitors, users, and adjacent technologies, and maintaining constant user engagement through interviews and community interaction. You'll translate user insights into concrete product changes, drive cross-team prioritization decisions involving engineering, field, and support teams, and work with engineering as a technically-respected peer.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience as a software engineer or in a highly technical product role, with a track record of shipping and iterating on products end-to-end. You should have hands-on experience with large-scale data platforms such as databases, data infrastructure, or ML/AI systems. A deep understanding of the AI researcher persona—their success metrics, pain points, and what drives adoption—is essential. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrate ownership of complex projects with minimal guidance, and have a proven ability to influence roadmap and prioritization decisions. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are critical for driving alignment across teams. Experience with data-driven decision-making (metrics, experiments, usage analysis) and familiarity with open-source communities round out the profile.
This is an early-stage opportunity to help define and execute product at a company building the AI-native data layer category. You'll work directly with teams deploying real AI systems in production and have a clear path to owning larger product scope over time. The role emphasizes high ownership and minimal process overhead.
