Monday.com, an AI work platform used by 250,000+ customers, is seeking a Senior Illustrator & Visual Designer to join the Product Design Foundation Team (Design Systems). This role focuses on creating and evolving the visual language and illustration system that brings warmth and humanity to complex workflows across monday's product suite.
You will own the illustration system end-to-end, from concept through scalable implementation, serving as the visual voice of the platform. Your work will span empty states, onboarding moments, error screens, celebratory wins, in-app announcements, and AI agent character design. You'll translate strategic briefs into visually articulated narratives and build a cohesive illustration style that scales across products used by millions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Translating written ideas and strategy into compelling visual storylines
- Building and refining monday's illustration style across diverse use cases
- Leveraging AI tools and skills for concept creation, balancing low-fidelity sketches with high-fidelity illustrations
- Applying systems thinking to product illustrations and codifying guidelines
- Defining the relationship between illustration and other visual mediums (iconography, photography, typography)
- Providing art and visual direction for 2D and 3D visual artifacts, including AI agent character design
- Creating illustrations and storyboards for animation
- Acting as a visual intermediary between product and brand teams
You'll collaborate closely with Brand Illustrators, Product Designers, Brand Designers, and Content Designers to enhance the visual language with AI at scale.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience as an illustrator, visual designer, or similar role, with a portfolio demonstrating range and distinct style
- Strong fundamentals in composition, illustration, color, shape language, and visual storytelling
- Experience designing for digital products (not standalone artwork); understanding of how illustration behaves in interfaces at different sizes and states
- Ability to build and document scalable illustration systems (styles, components, usage guidelines)
- Proficiency with Figma, Illustrator, Midjourney, Weavy, or similar tools; experience with AI-assisted illustration workflows at scale
- Ability to translate ambiguous or technical briefs into clear, simple visual concepts
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
