WeTravel is a platform empowering travel entrepreneurs to launch and grow their own travel businesses. The company handles payments, bookings, and customer management for organizers running trips globally. Last year, over 1 million travelers booked adventures through the platform across 150+ countries, with organizers processing $1B in travel experiences annually. You will join the Booking Management team as a Senior Product Engineer, leading critical projects across checkout flows, order management, tax compliance, and traveler self-service. The team owns the complete journey from booking decision through reservation management, including checkout UX, order state management, tax handling across jurisdictions, and post-booking modifications (changes, transfers, cancellations). Day-to-day responsibilities include leading booking projects end-to-end—from discovery with Product and Customer teams through solution design, implementation, rollout, monitoring, and incident response. You'll partner closely with Product to understand organizer and traveler pain points, building experiences that convert and delight. You own the reliability and performance of booking and order management systems, and contribute to WeTravel's engineering practices and excellence. The role requires 7+ years of product engineering expertise with 4+ years architecting complex e-commerce, booking, or order management systems. You should have a proven track record in high-scale consumer checkout, marketplace, travel, or e-commerce platforms. Deep expertise in production checkout and order flows is essential—conversion funnels, pricing/tax calculation, availability/inventory, cancellations, modifications, refunds, order state machines, multi-step form UX, and operational tooling. You need strong backend mastery in Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js (with ability to ramp quickly on Ruby), plus full-stack comfort building React interfaces for booking flows. Expertise in distributed systems architecture is critical: order/reservation state machines, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, event-driven architectures, webhooks, and reliable consumer patterns. You must have direct production on-call experience, including post-mortem authoring and incident leadership. Technical requirements include cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), containerization, modern CI/CD, and precision handling of pricing and tax logic. Bonus qualifications include tax engine experience, multi-jurisdiction tax compliance (VAT, GST, sales tax), travel reservation systems, end-to-end checkout/booking redesign launches, and marketplace/two-sided platform commerce experience. WeTravel uses React/TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Kotlin microservices on Kubernetes, MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake, and major LLM providers. The team is AI-first, using latest models and agentic dev tools. Communication skills are essential—you'll work cross-functionally in a distributed, multicultural environment and mentor others on AI concepts.
