Ethena Labs is seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead design for Ethena Pay, a flagship mobile money app live on iOS with Android in development. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on raising the design bar across the product.
You will own approximately 80% of your time on product design and design system work, with 20% supporting marketing design efforts (launch content, social media, app store pages). You'll report to the Head of Product and work as a peer to an existing Product Designer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the app and design system across iOS and Android, creating a prioritized plan for what to keep, fix, or rebuild
- Establish and ship a new design standard with engineering: component library, motion and interaction language (timing, springs, haptics, transitions), and layout/type/state rules
- Design all states, not just happy paths: loading, pending, failed, limit reached, offline, and error states
- Own display rules for money (balances, rounding, pending vs. settled amounts) to ensure clarity
- Create the app's voice: terminology, error messaging, and user guidance
- Own the brand: write guidelines for go-to-market teams, develop partner co-branding and card artwork, and create social and launch content
- Bring Android to feature parity with iOS on design standards
- Raise team craft through critique, pairing, lightweight research, and design practice development
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record with a portfolio of world-class mobile app design (shipped native apps where design is a key reason users choose the product)
- Several years designing shipped native apps with exceptional design
- Advanced motion and interaction design skills: transitions, springs, gestures, haptics, micro-interactions—demonstrated through prototypes, recordings, and precise engineering specifications
- Senior product design experience on a live neobank, payments, card, or crypto money app where design is a competitive advantage (e.g., Revolut, Monzo, Wise, Nubank, Cash App, Plasma One), or other standout consumer mobile apps (e.g., Airbnb)
- Portfolio showing states (not just hero screens) and honest account of shipped vs. designed work
- Evidence of raising team craft: designers or engineers you've worked with demonstrably improved
- Real brand and marketing work you've created: identity, identity extensions, card artwork, or launch/social content
- Proficiency with AI design tools (Figma MCP, Claude Code, or equivalent) to accelerate work while maintaining craft standards, with awareness of tool limitations
