Discord is seeking a Senior Product Designer to own the Design Systems team's work on Mana, Discord's widely-used design system. You will be responsible for the day-to-day stewardship of the system—maintaining its health, accuracy, and usefulness as the product scales across millions of daily active users.
In this role, you'll maintain and evolve Mana's foundational tokens, components, and patterns by triaging and fixing bugs, shipping updates, keeping Figma and code in sync, and managing migrations and deprecations of legacy elements. You'll build and refine components in Figma with deep attention to structure, variants, properties, and variables, ensuring they match how they're implemented in code. You'll own the prioritization of Mana's maintenance and evolution work, helping shape how contributions and governance evolve as the product grows.
You'll explore how AI—including skills and agents—can make Mana easier to use, maintain, and scale. You'll support product teams with empathy and clear reasoning, providing excellent support in help channels, collaborating closely with product designers on contributions, and clearly distinguishing between system violations and personal preference. You'll extend Mana's visual language to new components and surfaces, bringing fresh ideas in close collaboration with engineering in a co-owned system where ownership shifts based on what the work needs.
You'll also educate and evangelize the system through clear documentation and tutorials, high-quality mocks and interactive prototypes, and design rationale presented cross-functionally and informed by user research and data.
This role reports to the Director of Product Design, Design Foundations.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of experience in UX or product design, including 2+ years working on design systems (maintenance, documentation, and support)
- Mastery of Figma component building, including variants, component properties, auto layout, variables, and library management
- Working knowledge of front-end code and how components are built in code; experience with GitHub and Markdown
- Hands-on experience using AI in a design systems context, such as building or using skills, agents, or AI-assisted workflows
- Strong visual judgment and craft within an established style, including motion, across multiple platforms (Web, Desktop, iOS, Android)
- Experience with inclusive design and accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Diplomatic, empathetic, low-ego communication: grounding feedback in reasoning rather than taste, writing clear technical documentation, and thriving on cross-functional teams where ownership is shared and roles overlap
**Bonus:**
- Experience planning and leading migrations or deprecations of legacy components across a large product
- Experience working in a design system co-owned by design and engineering
