Cyvl is a Physical AI company helping governments build and maintain infrastructure faster using hardware, software, and AI. The company turns street-level capture into actionable intelligence used by 500+ cities and towns to manage roads, bridges, and sidewalks.
As Cyvl's first product designer, you will own the complete customer experience across hardware (sensors on vehicles) and software (platform interfaces). You report to the VP of Product and work in pitch-based build cycles with product managers and engineers. Your responsibilities include:
- Conduct discovery with public works teams to understand their needs and identify friction points in the product.
- Collaborate with product and engineering to build pitches and ship solutions, often writing code yourself.
- Transform complex LiDAR, imagery, and condition data into interfaces that public works directors can understand and act on in seconds. Prototype rapidly using tools like Claude Code.
- Analyze product analytics and customer data to identify friction and prioritize fixes.
- Own the design system and platform's visual direction; partner with the hardware team on field-capture experience design.
- As the company grows, build and lead Cyvl's design function.
This is pure product design focused on what public works crews actually use in the field, not marketing or brand work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years designing B2B enterprise software within high-growth, VC-backed startups.
- Alternatively: 3+ years B2B SaaS design plus background in product management, engineering, or industrial design.
- Customer obsession: preference for field research with real users over design-tool speculation.
- Ability to push UX changes to production code yourself, not just hand off designs.
- Portfolio demonstrating ability to simplify complex, messy systems.
- Fluency in data and AI: comfortable reading codebases, proficient with analytics tools (e.g., PostHog), and understanding of data models and ML/AI concepts well enough to design for them.
- Familiarity with Figma, Claude Code, or similar tools.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience designing across hardware and software, or background in industrial design.
- Experience designing agentic or AI-driven experiences.
