Salary: USD 165,000 - 185,000 / annual
Arketa is building an operating system for modern fitness and wellness, enabling studios and wellness entrepreneurs to manage and scale hybrid businesses through scheduling, bookings, payments, on-demand video libraries, retreats, marketing automation, and branded apps. The company has raised $15M in Series A funding and is growing rapidly.
You will serve as a Senior Product Designer in a broad, cross-project role rather than being assigned to a single pod. Your influence spans many features and surfaces across the product. A key responsibility is owning and revitalizing the design system—taking an existing but under-resourced system and transforming it into something rigorous, visually strong, and genuinely useful to the team.
You'll work closely with Product and Engineering as a core design partner, not a downstream service function. Because you're not confined to one pod, you'll have visibility across the entire product and real influence on how surfaces integrate. The team is small and fast-moving; designers are expected to show their work, present at team-wide check-ins, and own outcomes. This is a role where your judgment shapes the product, not just the pixels.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working cross-project across many features and surfaces rather than owning a single pod
- Auditing, defining, and implementing a refreshed design system that is cohesive, scalable, and visually distinctive
- Collaborating closely with product and engineering to define and implement new features and design solutions
- Owning UI design from wireframes and prototypes to high-fidelity visuals
- Using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to build working prototypes, test ideas quickly, and accelerate decision-making
- Partnering with product to align design with business goals and user needs
- Presenting design concepts and updates at team-wide check-ins
- Staying current on industry trends in design and UX
Success milestones: By 30 days, you'll be onboarded and will have audited the current design system, surfacing inconsistencies. By 60 days, you'll be shipping alongside engineering across multiple surfaces with foundational design system components defined and in use. By 90 days, you'll have materially improved user experience quality across the Arketa app, with improvements visible in product and customer satisfaction metrics.
The role is hybrid, requiring presence in the NYC office (NoHo) three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Approximately 5+ years in product design with a strong portfolio demonstrating design expertise and process (the posting anchors on senior but is open in either direction for exceptional work)
- Design-first mentality; thrive in design-centric roles creating high-quality, user-centered interfaces
- Outcome-driven approach: designs consider business outcomes from the start; you use data, session captures, and customer interviews to shape and refine work
- Mix of B2B and consumer experience; ability to untangle complex B2B workflows and create genuinely beautiful consumer surfaces
- Experience contributing to or leading a design system that supports a growing product
- Proficiency in design tools (Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD)
- Hands-on with AI tools like Claude for prototyping and rapid concept validation
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Organized, self-sufficient, and proactive; able to manage multiple design projects simultaneously
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building visually distinctive design systems, not just consistent ones
- Mobile and native app design experience
- Early-stage or Series A company experience where design was not yet a defined function
- Interest in fitness, wellness, or the studio and small business space
