Sierra is building an AI platform to help businesses create better, more human customer experiences. The company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices across major global hubs including Atlanta, New York, London, Paris, Madrid, Munich, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. Founded by Bret Taylor (former Salesforce co-CEO, Facebook CTO, Google Maps co-creator) and Clay Bavor (18-year Google veteran who led Google Labs, AR/VR, and Google Workspace), Sierra is backed by world-class leadership and a mission to deploy AI responsibly.
You will join Sierra's growing legal team as Senior Product Counsel, reporting to the Associate General Counsel for Product and Privacy. This is a core role in the product legal function, serving as the primary legal partner for Product and Engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include:
• End-to-end product legal support: counsel teams from concept through launch on Sierra's agent platform and new products
• Integrate privacy-by-design principles and AI transparency measures into product development workflows
• Advise customer-facing Agent Development teams on legal requirements including consumer protection, telecommunications (voice, messaging), and industry-specific regulations for regulated customers
• Develop scalable product review processes, launch checklists, and self-serve guidance to enable rapid product iteration
• Monitor emerging AI-specific regulations (EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework) and assess applicability to Sierra's products
• Partner with the privacy team to implement AI governance policies and responsible AI deployment frameworks
• Advise product leadership on legal risks, regulatory trends, and design implications
You bring 8+ years of legal experience combining large international law firm and in-house tech company work. You have deep expertise advising product and engineering teams on new product development, ideally with AI/ML, communications, or platform products. You understand privacy law (GDPR, CCPA), AI regulatory frameworks, consumer protection, and IP. You can partner effectively with technical teams, balance legal risks against business objectives in fast-moving environments, and communicate clearly with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
Ideal candidates also have experience with voice/telephony products and regulatory regimes (TCPA, state call recording laws), counseling on products for regulated industries (healthcare, financial services), familiarity with ML model risks, trust and safety or responsible AI program development, and startup experience with rapid iteration.
