Cloudflare is seeking an experienced in-house counsel to join its Product Counsel team, serving as a frontline legal advisor on the company's most complex technology and business issues. The role combines deep legal expertise with cross-functional collaboration across product, engineering, and business teams throughout the software development and commercialization lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include drafting and negotiating technology transactions (including AI inference agreements and developer platform arrangements), translating complex legal analysis into actionable guidance for fast-moving teams, and proactively assessing legal risks on products that reshape how information moves across the Internet. You will serve as a legal advisor to senior business leaders on product strategy implications, review and architect legal frameworks for technology partner agreements and IP licensing deals, and draft terms of service, policies, and related processes.
Additional duties span privacy-by-design reviews, data-flow documentation for responsible AI counseling, patent strategy support, trade secret protection, product marketing claim substantiation, and process refinement to enable Legal team scaling. You will also engage externally as a subject matter expert and support the commercial legal team on complex customer inquiries.
The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably with technology companies, particularly Internet security and infrastructure. A JD degree and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction are required. Technical background or expertise is highly desired—while a science or technical degree is not required, a genuine passion for emerging technologies (especially AI, Internet law, copyright, data protection) is essential. Strong communication skills, cross-functional collaboration ability, and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment are critical.
