Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products to major enterprises like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The Global DPO Office is expanding its privacy and data governance capability across regions, with existing teams in Amsterdam and New York and planned growth in APAC.
You will join as Senior Privacy Counsel based in Singapore, driving Adyen's privacy program across the Asia-Pacific region. This is a builder role central to Adyen's commercial expansion in APAC. You will establish a scalable regional privacy baseline, advise on complex local data processing and localization requirements, and partner closely with regional product, engineering, commercial, and compliance teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as senior privacy advisor for APAC operations, providing pragmatic guidance to product, engineering, commercial, HR, and corporate teams
- Adapt and extend Adyen's global privacy framework to meet regional requirements across diverse APAC jurisdictions
- Advise on compliance across major regimes: Singapore's PDPA, India's DPDPA, Japan's APPI, Australia's Privacy Act, Hong Kong's PDPO, and cross-border data flows
- Conduct and review privacy impact assessments and data protection impact assessments for APAC initiatives
- Draft, review, and negotiate privacy terms in commercial agreements and data processing agreements
- Monitor regulatory developments across APAC and translate them into actionable policies and controls
- Support privacy incident response and management in the region
- Provide advisory on AI governance and data governance across APAC
- Develop region-specific privacy training and self-service resources
- Engage with regional stakeholders, local regulators, and external counsel
You are a qualified lawyer in a Commonwealth jurisdiction with 7+ years of data privacy experience, including GDPR expertise and strong command of APAC privacy regimes. You have deep, hands-on expertise in two or more APAC frameworks (PDPA, DPDPA, APPI, PIPA, PDPO, PIPL) and understand cross-border data transfer and localization requirements. You have experience setting up or scaling privacy programs in-house or in law firms. You are a generalist comfortable across commercial negotiations, compliance frameworks, vendor assessments, incident management, and privacy-by-design approaches. You excel at cross-functional partnering and can balance regulatory requirements with business needs.
