SandboxAQ is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to build infrastructure, tooling, and pipelines supporting a medical device product spanning embedded Linux fleets in the field and cloud systems. This is a hands-on, systems-focused role where you'll design and implement real tooling—not configuration files—making the compliant path the fast path so patient safety is never compromised for speed. Key responsibilities include owning the complete lifecycle of the in-field Linux kiosk fleet (build, signing, rollout, rollback, per-device configuration, OTA updates, and recovery mechanisms); designing and operating CI/CD and release promotion systems with test gating, controlled approvals, and full traceability across cloud and device software; establishing the operational quality bar through observability, alerting, reliability, backup/recovery, auditability, and security controls; operating the AWS and Terraform foundation reliably and securely; and empowering engineers through golden paths and self-service deployment tools. You'll translate regulatory requirements (FDA 510(k) / De Novo pathways) into automated, tested tooling tied directly to delivery—including traceability, software bill of materials (SBOM), artifact signing, and audit trails. You'll be the technical voice for platform infrastructure across Product, Clinical, Regulatory, and InfoSec teams, supporting clinical studies and regulatory submissions. You'll also support data-science platform needs including reproducible environments, scalable compute, and reliable model serving. Required: 8+ years in platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering in AWS with Staff-level ownership of production CI/CD and release systems for complex, distributed systems handling sensitive data; strong software engineering in Python or Go; experience operating Linux-based systems and IoT device fleets including OTA update strategies; demonstrated CI/CD and release ownership with test gating and reversible deployments; deep Terraform/Terragrunt expertise plus Docker and container orchestration (ECS/Fargate or Kubernetes); and production observability and reliability experience (Datadog/CloudWatch). Highly desired: regulated/safety-critical/high-assurance software delivery experience (medical device IEC 62304 Class B/C preferred, or aerospace DO-178C, automotive ISO 26262, financial services, defense); hands-on Mender or comparable embedded-Linux OTA experience; full-lifecycle SaMD delivery and FDA pathway familiarity; HIPAA/GDPR-compliant system design; data engineering or ML infrastructure support experience; and networking/multi-cloud expertise.
