Remote is a global employment platform that helps organizations recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly. This Senior Payroll Specialist role is part of the Global Payroll Operations Team, fully remote but focused on Japan payroll operations.
You will act as the subject matter expert for Japan payroll, managing end-to-end payroll processing including statutory filings, compliance, exceptions, approvals, and payments. Key responsibilities include managing stakeholder relationships across Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams; ensuring data integrity and quality; performing accounting and reconciliations; monitoring KPIs and SLAs; implementing and improving processes; mentoring and supporting other payroll specialists; and backing up regional managers during absences.
You bring payroll management experience and deep knowledge of payroll best practices. You are proficient with SAP, Excel, and Google Sheets, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. You thrive in fast-paced, international, asynchronous environments and demonstrate strong automation and AI capabilities. Fluent English is required. Remote work experience is a plus but not required.
You will report to the Manager of Global Payroll Operations and join a distributed team working across six continents. Remote values innovation, automation, and AI integration across all roles, and emphasizes fair, above-market compensation aligned with local cost of living.
