Salary: USD 124,780 - 146,800 / annual
As a Senior Payroll Specialist on Coinbase's Global Payroll team, you will lead end-to-end biweekly payroll processing for all U.S. salaried and hourly employees. The Global Payroll team manages payroll operations across five continents, partnering with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Legal to deliver accurate, compliant, and scalable payroll services.
Key responsibilities include owning the complete U.S. payroll cycle, including equity-related payroll processing and daily cycles for non-qualified stock options. You will execute payroll input compilation from multiple sources, validate data for accuracy and completeness before each cycle, and drive timely resolution of employee payroll inquiries within SLA using Jira, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
You will partner with HR, Finance, and cross-functional teams to process employee changes in payroll systems and cross-check data accuracy. Additional duties include leading timecard tracking and reconciliation to ensure alignment between timekeeping systems and payroll records, and supporting continuous process improvements by identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency gains in payroll workflows.
Required experience includes multi-state payroll processing with demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local tax compliance. You must have proven experience processing payroll for employee populations receiving equity compensation, including restricted stock units. Hands-on proficiency with payroll platforms such as UKG Pro or Workday HCM and HRIS integrations in high-volume environments is essential.
You should have a track record of resolving complex payroll issues independently with documented root cause analysis and process improvement outcomes. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Slack, Atlassian tools (Jira), and Apple products is required for daily collaboration and case management. Experience with generative AI tools, cloud-native data environments (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery), and their metadata, lineage, and governance capabilities at scale is valued.
