Valar Atomics is developing high-temperature gas-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) to make clean nuclear power scalable for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The Senior OT Data Engineer will own the operational data architecture connecting industrial sources, historians, time-series databases, semantic models, visualization, and controlled downstream consumers across the reactor, fuel, and power-conversion programs.
This is a hands-on role spanning software, databases, storage, networking, cybersecurity boundaries, and field commissioning. You will design and deploy the complete OT data stack, including FactoryTalk Historian SE/AVEVA PI, InfluxDB, SQL databases, OPC UA/MQTT/API ingestion pipelines, ETL workflows, semantic data models, Grafana dashboards, virtualized data services, RAID/ZFS storage, and backup/recovery infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include: owning OT data architecture standards and roadmaps across programs; deploying and administering industrial data platforms; building ingestion pipelines that preserve source timestamps, values, units, quality, and traceability; developing semantic models and metadata that make operational data consistently usable; designing controlled data transfer across security zones and air gaps to enterprise/cloud systems; engineering time-series retention, compression, query performance, replication, and high availability; creating Grafana and analysis interfaces for engineers and operators; and developing C#/PowerShell services for data acquisition, transformation, validation, and monitoring.
You will work closely with the Senior SCADA Engineer, Senior OT Network Engineer, Senior OT Infrastructure Engineer, instrumentation and control teams, operations, quality, and engineering users. Data systems must preserve source fidelity and cannot interfere with control or safety-credited functions. The role requires frequent field work at the Torrance headquarters and the pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah. Ideal candidates have experience in power generation, oil & gas, process manufacturing, aerospace, or industrial environments where data fidelity, availability, and security are critical.
