KoBold Metals is an AI-driven mineral exploration company founded in 2018, backed by T. Rowe Price, Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and major natural resources companies. The company has proven its exploration model by discovering one of the world's highest-quality copper deposits with significantly less capital than industry norms, and operates a portfolio of 80+ projects globally.
This Senior Operations Data Analyst role is a senior individual contributor position reporting to the Head of Operations Data. You will own end-to-end data systems—data models, ETL pipelines, applications, and stakeholder relationships—with minimal oversight from day one, while mentoring junior analysts.
Key responsibilities include: (45%) building and integrating new data models, ETL/API integrations, and application support using tools like Palantir Foundry; (25%) maintaining the operations database (OPSDB), ensuring sync reliability, alerting, and production support; (15%) governance and technical debt reduction including RBAC, role scoping, dbt semantic layer, and documentation; (15%) supporting Mingomba (the company's mining operations) and cross-functional mentorship across procurement, inventory, and other functions.
You'll need 5+ years owning production data systems independently in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data operations. Required skills: strong SQL and data modeling (PostgreSQL), proven ETL and API integration experience, and comfort with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini). Preferred: dbt, AWS/S3, finance systems (NetSuite/Tipalti), or geospatial data experience.
Beyond technical skills, the role values intellectual curiosity about mineral exploration and geology, strong communication with non-technical domain experts, and eagerness to learn. You'll work directly with geologists, potentially traveling to exploration sites globally (light travel as needed). A valid passport is required. This is a full-time exempt position with US base salary $100,000–$125,000 plus equity and benefits.
