Salary: USD 146,000 - 194,000 / annual

Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, seeks a Senior Multiphysics Engineer to join its team in Costa Mesa, CA. You will own the internal flow, combustion, and heat transfer analysis for air vehicle propulsion systems, combining computational and experimental methods to design and optimize systems with complex, coupled physics processes. Key responsibilities include running CFD analysis of internal and high-speed flows with and without combustion; starting with hand calculations and 1D models to size designs, then refining with 3D CFD; predicting heat loads, surface temperatures, and pressures for thermal and structural teams; setting up appropriate gas properties and chemistry for modeled conditions; supporting rocket nozzle, insulation, and case design decisions; building and documenting repeatable workflows for other engineers; comparing predictions against static fire and ground test data to improve models; supporting material response and erosion analysis in high-temperature environments; collaborating with aerodynamics, thermal, structures, materials, and test engineers; and presenting results at design reviews. Required qualifications include a Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related field; ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Secret security clearance; 5+ years of CFD, aerothermal, thermal, or combustion analysis experience; foundational understanding of compressible flow including shocks, choked flow, and supersonic nozzles; strong first-principles knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics; experience with commercial CFD codes (STAR-CCM+, Fluent, or similar) including meshing and convergence; proficiency in hand calculations and 1D models to validate CFD; programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar; and clear technical writing and presentation skills. Preferred qualifications include PhD in related field, active U.S. Secret or Top Secret clearance, experience with solid rocket motors or propulsion systems, reacting flow modeling, chemistry tools (NASA CEA, Cantera, CHEMKIN), solver and flux scheme selection for shock-dominated flows, high-temperature/high-enthalpy flow experience, ablative/charring materials knowledge, multiphase/particle-laden flow experience, exhaust plumes and jet interaction expertise, model validation against test data, and scripting/automation skills.
