Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Mission Software Engineer to join the Maritime team, which builds autonomous underwater and surface vehicles. This role focuses on field-driven debugging and problem-solving for production systems already deployed in real-world conditions.
You will own the full lifecycle of field-reported anomalies: reproduce issues using recorded sensor and mission data, reconstruct system state using existing metrics and logging infrastructure, confirm fixes in simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments, and ship production fixes through the normal versioned rollout process. You'll work across multiple subsystems and languages (Rust, C++, Python, Go) to identify whether problems are bugs, configuration issues, or deployment mismatches, then fix them at the appropriate layer.
Key responsibilities include writing root-cause analyses for every issue closed to identify systemic gaps and missing tests, pushing back to owning teams when subsystem-level changes are needed rather than patching symptoms, and building the on-call and triage runbooks the team currently lacks.
This is positioned as a genuine entry point into the broader codebase and subsystem ownership. Success in this role—demonstrating cross-subsystem fluency and debugging instinct—leads to owning subsystems and roadmap work like other senior engineers.
Required qualifications: proven experience debugging unfamiliar code under time pressure with incomplete information; comfort reading and fixing bugs in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go; systems-level debugging instincts (logs, metrics, offline reproduction); hands-on experience with observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Loki/ELK); Linux and systems fluency; ability to write clear, concise root-cause analyses; willingness to work close to hardware and sensors; and availability for 25%+ travel.
Nice-to-have skills include robotics middleware, sensor drivers, real-time data pipeline experience, simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing, CI/CD and versioned deployment for embedded/fleet software, and on-call or field-support experience for shipped hardware.
