Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Senior Mission Formulation Lead to join the Mission Innovation team. This role bridges technical expertise and business development to identify, develop, and capture high-value opportunities in emerging space markets across commercial, government, and philanthropic sectors.
You will lead strategic capture efforts and mission formulation activities focused on RF and communications domains. Key responsibilities include executing mission formulation contracts, leading cross-functional teams to deliver mission concepts, and driving strategic capture campaigns for government and commercial opportunities. You will manage complex, multi-stage programs from early engagement through design concepts and mission delivery, while serving as Principal Investigator on R&D activities and proposals.
You will create technical proposals, white papers, and concept studies that articulate Muon's differentiation and mission utility. This includes performing feasibility studies, literature reviews, and trade studies to support early-stage mission and instrument development. Customer discovery and engagement are critical—translating operational pain points into technical requirements and conceptual solutions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product management, business development, and engineering teams to identify and develop new markets, products, and technologies.
Required qualifications include a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, or related field, plus 5+ years in RF remote sensing or communications missions in technical or programmatic leadership roles. You must have a strong foundation in first principles, background in RF (passive and/or active) phenomenologies for remote sensing and communications, and experience across government and commercial space markets. Excellent communication skills and ability to work across disciplines are essential. TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain and maintain is required.
Nice-to-have skills include proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Julia; familiarity with early-stage business development; training in strategic planning or scenario planning; and experience with satellite remote sensing systems development.
