Berkshire Grey is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Controls Engineer to join its product development team delivering AI-powered robotic automation solutions for supply chain and logistics. This role spans the full product development lifecycle—from concept through production and long-term support—working within an integrated team of hardware and software engineers.
You will own controls architecture and implementation for complex industrial automation systems. Key responsibilities include designing and integrating electromechanical systems compliant with functional safety standards (harmonized risk assessment and hazard analysis); developing PLC control logic for industrial environments, particularly using Siemens TIA Portal (SCL, LAD, FBD); orchestrating motor-driven roller conveyor systems; and selecting/integrating commercial off-the-shelf sensors, drives, and actuators (photo-eyes, proximity sensors, barcode scanners, motors 50W–3kW, VFDs, robot arms). You will design industrial communications networks (Ethernet-IP, Profinet, ASi, IO-Link) and debug complex devices using design documents, first-principles analysis, and standard electrical tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal sensors).
The ideal candidate brings 6+ years in material handling, process automation, piece-part automation, or semiconductor industries, with proven experience bringing industrial automation systems into production and supporting them throughout their lifecycle. Additional strengths in git/CI-CD, data-driven debugging, control system APIs, and electrical CAD (AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical) are valued. You are a self-starter who transforms unclear problems into practical solutions and thrives in a collaborative, high-talent engineering environment.
