Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots (Apollo) to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of battery systems and autonomous docking infrastructure for Apollo.
In this role, you will own the end-to-end mechanical design of battery packs, enclosures, mounting systems, and docking stations that enable reliable charging and seamless integration into our humanoid robot platform. You will define mechanical architectures for battery retention, thermal interfaces, sealing strategies, and structural load paths. Your work will span prototype development, structural and thermal analysis, tolerance validation, and field testing to ensure durability and reliability in demanding real-world environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading battery pack and docking station mechanical design using CAD tools (NX or similar)
- Designing autonomous docking interfaces, alignment mechanisms, and charging hardware
- Performing structural, thermal, and tolerance analyses to validate designs
- Collaborating across Electrical, Controls, Systems, Firmware, and Software teams to ensure seamless integration
- Supporting prototype development, laboratory and field testing, and design iteration
- Partnering with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to optimize for production, cost, and scalability
- Working directly with suppliers on component development, manufacturability review, and production qualification
- Ensuring battery and docking systems meet safety, environmental, and reliability requirements
- Mentoring junior engineers and establishing mechanical design best practices
You bring strong mechanical design expertise with proficiency in CAD, precision assemblies (sheet metal, machined parts, castings, plastics), and manufacturing processes. Experience with battery hardware, enclosures, charging interfaces, or power electronics packaging is highly valued. You have demonstrated success taking products from concept through prototype, validation, and production. You excel at cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and balancing performance, reliability, cost, and schedule.
