Odys Aviation is building safe, sustainable aircraft designed to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. The flagship aircraft Alta uses city helipads and local airports to connect cities under 1,000 miles apart, reducing CO2 emissions by 76% on average. The company is deploying its UAV Laila for commercial logistics, medical transport, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and defense missions, with launch partners including Fiji Airways, Honeywell, Aramex, and the US Navy, with firm orders already under contract. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will join the Propulsion Team to design, analyze, and integrate mechanical and thermal systems supporting high-power hybrid-electric propulsion, including motors, generators, inverters, turbines, and their supporting structures and cooling systems. This is a hands-on role with ownership of critical hardware. Key responsibilities include: leading design and analysis of rotating machinery subsystems (turbines, motors, generators) addressing vibration, dynamic balancing, and bearing/seal challenges; driving resolution of real hardware issues from prototype and early production builds; mentoring mid-level and junior engineers; contributing to propulsion team planning and technical strategy; creating and maintaining 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with GD&T and tolerance stackups; performing DFM/DFA trade studies balancing weight, cost, thermal performance, reliability, and manufacturability; working with suppliers and internal teams on manufacturing feasibility; supporting hands-on prototype assembly, integration, and test including debugging and root cause analysis; conducting engineering analysis using hand calculations and FEA; implementing and refining thermal management strategies; translating test data into actionable design improvements; and documenting designs and analyses to support team alignment and production. Required qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; 5+ years of mechanical design experience on complex systems; demonstrated experience owning critical assemblies or subsystems from concept through production; proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred) and production-quality drawings with GD&T; strong understanding of tolerance stackups and real-world fit/integration challenges; experience designing for multiple manufacturing processes; hands-on hardware building, testing, and troubleshooting; comfort with electromechanical systems; demonstrated debugging and root cause analysis ability; experience in fast-paced iterative hardware development; strong problem-solving and collaboration skills; and technical leadership experience such as leading design reviews or mentoring engineers. Nice-to-have skills include propulsion or electromechanical systems experience, thermal management of high-power systems, rotor dynamics or vibration analysis tools, thermal/structural analysis (FEA, CFD), and prototype/early production support experience.
