CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Manager of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to lead the company's accounting function. The role directs complex accounting activities, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance to enable accurate financial reporting and sound business decisions.
You will manage a team of accounting professionals and specialists, establishing operating policies and procedures that strengthen financial integrity and improve accounting processes. Reporting to Finance leadership and partnering with business stakeholders across the organization, you will own enterprise accounting operations, financial reporting, audit readiness, and strategic initiatives while building team capability and championing operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership & Development:** Manage and develop accounting professionals, set priorities, coach performance, and build workforce staffing plans. Establish performance standards and provide ongoing feedback to strengthen team capability, engagement, and career growth. Partner with HR on recruitment, onboarding, and development planning.
**General Accounting:** Direct complex accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger management. Own month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses. Establish operating policies for resolving complex accounting issues in alignment with accounting standards. Oversee review of accounting transactions and supporting documentation.
**Financial Reporting:** Direct preparation of financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules. Evaluate financial results and communicate significant trends, variances, and reporting risks to Finance leadership. Lead implementation of new accounting standards and reporting requirements. Develop budgets, financial analyses, and performance standards supporting business performance and executive decision-making.
**Accounting Operations & Compliance:** Own internal and external audit readiness, coordinating documentation and accounting support. Ensure department-wide compliance with accounting standards, company policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements. Partner with cross-functional leaders on accounting guidance for operational initiatives and business transactions. Evaluate accounting practices and champion improvements.
**Operational Excellence:** Champion initiatives improving accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency. Lead implementation of accounting system enhancements and process automation. Establish and maintain accounting procedures, documentation, and financial reporting standards. Represent the accounting function in enterprise initiatives.
CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. The company operates in a dynamic, cross-functional work environment.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
- 9–11 years of related experience with BS degree, 7–9 years with Master's degree, or 5–7 years with PhD in accounting, financial reporting, audit, accounts payable, internal controls, or related discipline
- 2–5 years of leadership/management experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent financial platforms
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger management
- Expertise in account reconciliations, month-end close processes, financial statement preparation, and internal controls
- Experience establishing operating policies, budgets, schedules, and performance standards for an accounting function
- Demonstrated ability to manage subordinate professionals, build workforce staffing plans, and develop team capability
- Strong analytical thinking when evaluating complex accounting transactions and financial results
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and department-wide accounting activities
- Effective communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills with senior Finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
- Attention to detail when preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting
