Checkout.com is a global payments platform processing over 10 billion transactions yearly for companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. The company operates across 20 offices on six continents with London as headquarters.
You will lead the global Transaction Monitoring (TM) function as Senior Manager, Head of Transaction Monitoring, reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Controls. This is a strategic leadership role overseeing both first-line (alert investigations) and second-line (FIU and complex investigations) functions to ensure effective coordination between detection capabilities and investigative processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the global Transaction Monitoring team with strategic oversight on AML risk detection and mitigation
- Overseeing end-to-end transaction monitoring processes across 1LOD and 2LOD with seamless escalation of financial crime risks
- Designing, maintaining, and continuously improving the TM framework with a risk-based, scalable approach
- Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to develop, refine, and optimize transaction monitoring rules and scenarios
- Implementing quality assurance measures for both alert investigations and FIU case management
- Leveraging data analytics, AI, and machine learning to enhance detection capabilities and efficiency
- Ensuring compliance with global AML regulations and aligning policies with industry best practices
- Providing subject matter expertise on AML risks to internal stakeholders and regulators
- Monitoring regulatory developments and industry trends for proactive compliance
- Leading and developing a high-performing team with a culture of continuous improvement
- Overseeing MI reporting and KPIs to provide senior leadership visibility into TM effectiveness
Required qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years in senior financial crime/AML roles within regulated financial institutions, FinTech, or payments companies
- Deep understanding of AML transaction monitoring frameworks, financial crime typologies, and regulatory expectations across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience overseeing both first-line and second-line financial crime functions
- Strong knowledge of payment flows and money laundering risks in FinTech/payments
- Experience working with technology teams on transaction monitoring infrastructure improvements
- Strong analytical and data-driven mindset with experience leveraging data for monitoring effectiveness
- Experience with AI and machine learning applications in transaction monitoring
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and regulators
- Proven track record leading teams and driving operational excellence in compliance
- Proficiency with transaction monitoring systems (Actimize, Mantas, FICO, or equivalent), Excel, and data visualization platforms
