SoFi is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Science to lead a team supporting the company's SIPS businesses (Checking & Savings, Invest, Credit Card, Protect, and Lantern). This role balances urgent stakeholder requests with high-quality project delivery, leveraging analytical, engineering, and management expertise.
Key responsibilities include managing a team of data scientists, collaborating with senior leaders to identify and prioritize data science initiatives, setting quality and delivery standards, recruiting and retaining top talent, and ensuring agile team operations. You will mentor data scientists on best practices, technical decisions, and coding standards while building strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders including engineering, product, marketing, design, operations, finance, risk, legal, and compliance teams.
The role requires staying current with AI/ML technologies, identifying high-impact business opportunities, and presenting data-driven insights to both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll work to understand stakeholder needs and offer data-driven solutions that help members achieve financial goals.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a technical field, 7+ years of data science or software engineering experience, and 3+ years of management experience. Strong technical skills are essential: proficiency in SQL and Python, experience with Airflow and DBT for building data pipelines in Snowflake, and familiarity with BI tools like Tableau or Looker. You should have demonstrated experience deploying ML models at scale in production with monitoring, knowledge of ML algorithms and their business applications, and a track record of leveraging data-driven analysis to influence key decisions in tech or finance environments.
Excellent communication and presentation skills are critical, along with the ability to explain complex analyses simply to business leaders. Strong problem-solving, relationship-building, and collaborative skills are essential for success in this dynamic, cross-functional environment.
