Salary: USD 175,000 - 250,000 / annual
Snorkel AI is seeking a Senior Manager to lead and support a portfolio of Coding Fellows who create high-quality technical content used to train and evaluate AI systems. This is a people-first management role focused on the human layer across multiple projects.
In this role, you will directly manage Coding Fellows, own their performance management, and ensure they receive consistent support and clear expectations. You will build trusted relationships through regular one-on-ones, understand each Fellow's strengths and development needs, and partner with People Operations on onboarding and administrative matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting Coding Fellows through regular communication and relationship-building
- Owning cross-project performance management, including setting expectations for quality, reliability, collaboration, and professional conduct
- Gathering and synthesizing feedback across projects, recognizing strong performance, and providing candid feedback
- Maintaining technical credibility by reviewing representative work (code, pull requests, annotations, documentation) to understand quality and development needs
- Partnering with project delivery teams to create effective feedback loops, establish clear expectations, and resolve conflicts
- Coaching Fellow growth and strengthening the program through career conversations, contextualized metrics, and workforce planning
You will own Fellow support, people administration, performance expectations, consolidated feedback, performance reviews, coaching, and long-term success. Project delivery teams will own day-to-day task assignment, project-specific priorities, and immediate deliverable acceptance. You will not run every stand-up or manage every task.

Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, technical leadership, or related environment, including direct management of programmers or software engineers
- Demonstrated experience hiring, onboarding, coaching, conducting performance reviews, delivering actionable feedback, and handling difficult conversations
- Experience managing people across multiple projects, clients, teams, or changing assignments
- Enough technical depth to read and discuss code and pull requests, assess engineering judgment, and understand core software-development practices
- Ability to evaluate performance thoughtfully rather than relying on throughput or simple metrics
- Strong written and verbal communication, sound judgment, discretion, empathy, and collaborative approach
- Experience in a consultancy, software agency, contract engineering shop, professional-services organization, or similar distributed environment is strongly preferred
- Computer-science degree is not required; experience with AI/ML development, model evaluation, annotation, data quality, or technical-content production is helpful
