Salary: GBP 34,000 - 46,000 / annual

Monzo is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to join its Employee Relations team and help create fair, consistent, and positive people experiences across the organization. You will partner closely with managers, People Partners, and teams across the wider People Collective, providing specialist advice on complex and higher-risk employee relations matters across global locations, specifically the UK and EU. In this role, you will be trusted to use your judgment to help managers navigate difficult situations with clarity, empathy, and confidence, balancing employment law and risk with what's fair, practical, and right for Monzo and its people. As Monzo continues to grow internationally, you will bring experience of working across different employment landscapes and understanding how ER approaches need to flex across different jurisdictions, cultures, and legal frameworks. Key responsibilities include: - Partnering with managers and People Partners on complex, sensitive, and higher-risk ER matters, providing clear, pragmatic advice and helping them reach fair and consistent outcomes - Adapting advice to different employment landscapes, taking account of local employment law, regulatory requirements, culture, and established practices - Independently supporting matters across performance, conduct, grievances, absence, capability, organizational change, and other complex workplace issues - Coaching and appropriately challenging managers while ensuring ownership of decisions stays with the relevant manager - Supporting ER colleagues with more complex or ambiguous cases, helping them think through risk, options, and the best way forward - Coaching and mentoring less experienced ER colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping them develop judgment, confidence, and independence - Supporting ACAS Early Conciliation, Employment Tribunal claims, and other employment-related disputes, partnering closely with Legal and external counsel - Ensuring ER matters are properly documented and managed through case management systems with high standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and data quality - Using ER and wider People data to spot trends, themes, and emerging risks, turning insights into practical recommendations - Helping design, review, and improve People policies, processes, and ER frameworks across different jurisdictions - Designing and delivering training and knowledge shares to help managers handle people matters confidently and consistently - Staying current on developments in employment law, case law, regulation, and ER practice across global footprint, particularly Spain - Leading and contributing to ER and wider People Collective projects, taking ownership from idea through implementation You will be comfortable working independently, getting stuck into problems where the answer isn't always obvious, and spotting opportunities to make things better. You will also be an escalation point for more complex ER matters, coach others to build their confidence and judgment, and contribute to projects that improve how Monzo approaches Employee Relations. Requirements: - Experienced Employee Relations specialist with strong practical knowledge of employment law and ER best practice, including experience supporting ACAS Early Conciliation and/or Employment Tribunal claims - Confident independently managing complex, sensitive, and higher-risk ER matters, using sound judgment to balance legal and ER risk with fairness and practical business considerations - Experience working in a global or multi-jurisdictional ER environment with understanding of how to adapt approach to different local employment laws, regulations, cultures, and employment practices - Comfortable challenging, influencing, and building trusted relationships with managers and senior stakeholders, combining empathy and diplomacy with appropriate challenge - Enjoys coaching and developing others, helping managers and colleagues build their own confidence and judgment - Proactive and comfortable with ambiguity; able to spot problems, risks, and opportunities, get to the root of them, and take ownership of finding practical solutions - Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and complex pieces of work while maintaining strong attention to detail - Comfortable using data and insights to identify trends, understand what's driving ER activity, and spot opportunities to improve - Cares about creating kind, fair, and respectful people experiences, particularly when navigating difficult or sensitive situations Desirable qualifications: - CIPD qualified or other relevant employment law or HR qualification - Experience designing or implementing ER policies, frameworks, training, or broader People initiatives
