Deliveroo, now part of DoorDash, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the London office and work on the New Verticals team. This role focuses on expanding monthly active usage beyond restaurant ordering into groceries, retail, and other categories through machine learning-driven personalization and ranking. You will build and improve ranking models for vertical landing pages (grocery, retail) that determine what users see first when browsing a store. You'll design models that seamlessly blend new-vertical content into the homepage without disrupting the core restaurant-ordering experience. A key responsibility is developing personalization models that translate existing user behavior into relevant recommendations for verticals they haven't explored yet. You'll also contribute to notification targeting strategies—determining who receives notifications, what message they see, and optimal timing to drive adoption of new verticals. This work sits at the intersection of personalization and ranking, with collaboration across DoorDash, Deliveroo, and Wolt teams globally. The role requires 5+ years as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist with proven ability to write production-quality Python code. You must have hands-on experience with end-to-end model productionization and a bias toward simplicity and impact. Background in personalization, ranking, or recommender systems is essential; experience with causal inference or uplift modeling is a plus. Deliveroo offers competitive salary, equity options, and a low-hierarchy, high-ownership environment where you can ship and iterate quickly. The company emphasizes solving real-world problems at scale, fast feedback loops, career growth through challenging work, and a collaborative culture built for builders. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in the London office.
