As a Senior Life Underwriter, you will be a core member of the underwriting team, performing line underwriting on individual term life insurance cases up to $8 million face amount. Your responsibilities include evaluating medical and personal history, analyzing medical/non-medical/financial data to make sound risk decisions, and maintaining quality standards while managing application volumes. You'll collaborate closely with external underwriters, internal case underwriters, and cross-functional teams (Customer Operations, Compliance) to ensure both rigorous risk assessment and exceptional user experience.
You'll report to the Underwriting Director and play a key role in maintaining Ladder's underwriting philosophy while supporting the company's mission to make life insurance accessible and delightful.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of life insurance underwriting experience at a leading carrier or reinsurer, with demonstrated expertise in individual term life underwriting. You should have sound judgment, the ability to adapt to an innovative environment, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate is a continuous learner committed to user-centered solutions.
Compensation is tiered by location: Tier 1 (SF Bay Area, NYC, Seattle) $100,000–$117,600; Tier 2 (LA, Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, Denver, Philadelphia, San Diego) $89,000–$104,700; Tier 3 (other eligible states) $79,000–$92,820. Role is remote within 23 US states where Ladder is licensed.
