Scalable Capital, a leading European fintech platform with over €50 billion in assets under management and 1M+ clients, is seeking a Senior Kotlin/Java Software Engineer to join its Trading Platform team in Berlin.
You will be part of a highly motivated, cross-functional team building and operating the core trading platform that powers Scalable Capital's investment services. In this role, you will design, build, and evolve business-critical backend services supporting the complete trading lifecycle—from order intake and validation through execution, status updates, and post-trade processing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop reliable, scalable, and observable backend services using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot in a distributed, event-driven environment
- Design and implement business-critical services that handle time-sensitive financial data with high correctness and performance requirements
- Work cross-functionally with product, operations, risk, and engineering teams to translate complex trading processes into clear, resilient software models and APIs
- Build integrations with internal platforms and external trading venues
- Take full ownership from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Contribute to platform reliability, performance, availability, security, and auditability standards
- Work in autonomous agile teams using modern practices: code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code
- Raise engineering standards across reliability, automation, observability, developer experience, and operational processes
The role offers exposure to high-impact fintech infrastructure, working with a 700+ person team across Munich, Berlin, Vienna, and Milan. You'll have access to latest hardware, education budgets, flexible work arrangements, and relocation support if needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in computer science, engineering, or comparable qualification
- Strong professional experience building production backend services with Kotlin or Java and Spring Boot
- Experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven, high-availability systems with clear API and service boundaries
- Solid understanding of Domain-Driven Design and ability to model complex business workflows in maintainable software
- Demonstrated ability to work on latency-sensitive, high-throughput systems, including performance analysis, monitoring, capacity planning, and failure-mode design
- Experience designing, operating, and optimizing data persistence for backend services, including relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB)
- Strong engineering-quality mindset: clean, secure, testable, documented, maintainable code with production service ownership
- Familiarity with cloud-native development and operations, ideally AWS, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tooling
- Strong analytical skills and clear communication with engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders
- Plus: Experience designing and operating gRPC services, including protobuf-based API design, backward-compatible schema evolution, error handling, and observability
- Plus: Experience with financial-market systems requiring strict operational controls and auditability
