Hinge Health is seeking a Senior Health Economist to architect the analytical strategy that demonstrates the platform's value to major health plans and employers in musculoskeletal (MSK) care. This role combines rigorous health economics research with commercial impact, requiring you to lead high-stakes ROI analyses, mentor junior economists, and shape the research agenda that informs product development and go-to-market strategy.
In the first three months, you will assess Hinge Health's current health economics portfolio, prioritize high-impact studies for commercial growth, establish yourself as a trusted advisor to Client Success and Commercial teams, and lead your first complex external ROI study from vendor negotiation through results presentation.
Within six months, you will own concurrent health economics workstreams across product lines (chronic MSK, surgical replacement, pelvic health), present directly to health plan C-suite and actuarial teams with defensible analyses, mentor a junior health economist, and build advanced analytics infrastructure using tools like Databricks to scale team capacity.
By year one, you will define Hinge Health's long-term health economics research strategy, lead publication of high-impact manuscripts in top-tier journals (JAMA, Health Affairs), influence product roadmap decisions by identifying economic opportunities, and serve as the primary advisor to senior leadership on value-based contracting and payer partnerships.
You are a strategic thinker who anticipates business needs 12 months ahead and builds infrastructure to answer them. You communicate complex methodologies to diverse audiences—from PhDs to sales teams—and thrive in fast-paced commercial environments where study deadlines directly impact revenue. You are hands-on with code and data while setting vision for how health economics drives business strategy.
Required: PhD in health economics, health services research, or related field (Master's with exceptional applied experience considered); 6-10 years designing and conducting health economics studies using advanced econometric methods (causal inference, cost-effectiveness analysis, budget impact modeling); 6-10 years working with large-scale claims databases (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) with deep knowledge of medical billing, CPT/ICD coding, and health insurance; expert-level programming in R, SQL, and/or Python with a track record of building reproducible, scalable analytical pipelines.
Preferred: First-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals; 3+ years with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms; digital health or MSK care expertise; experience mentoring junior analysts; proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools; prior client-facing experience presenting to health plan executives and C-suite leaders.
Hinge Health operates on a hybrid model with 3 days per week in-office in San Francisco. The office is dog-friendly.
