Current Health is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to own embedded firmware development for medical devices, from early concept through production deployment. You will take technical ownership of firmware on individual projects, working closely with hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver high-reliability systems.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining production-grade embedded firmware for regulated medical devices; maintaining and updating the cyber security risk register for firmware-related components, ensuring risks are identified, tracked, and mitigated; producing concise documentation to support regulatory audits and submissions; maintaining efficient automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines within regulatory constraints; and collaborating closely with hardware, product, and design teams to ensure effective integration and system-level reliability.
You will be accountable for firmware quality and safety, executing decisively under pressure while communicating effectively with the wider team. This role requires strong embedded programming skills in C or C++, hands-on RTOS experience (preferably FreeRTOS) including scheduling, synchronization, and debugging timing-critical code, and experience integrating and validating data from multiple sensors. You should have a solid understanding of WiFi, TCP/IP, BLE protocols, strong grasp of microprocessor architectures and digital electronics, and awareness of regulatory requirements for medical devices. Experience shipping production-grade embedded firmware for medical or regulated products is essential, as is comfort working close to the hardware and delivering on resource-constrained systems through bring-up and integration.
