Salary: USD 120,000 - 175,000 / annual
Lunar Energy is building clean energy products to electrify homes and create virtual power plants. As a Senior Firmware Engineer focused on Communications, you'll own the full product development lifecycle of firmware and software that powers their home energy systems.
You'll work cross-functionally to design and optimize firmware for power electronics controls, system-level behaviors, mobile app interfaces, system diagnostics, RF and powerline communication protocols, control algorithms, and installation automation. Your responsibilities include collaborating with hardware, product, and manufacturing teams to refine product designs, evaluate new features, test ideas through simulations and validation, and optimize manufacturing processes.
Key technical areas: wireless mesh networking (esp-wifi-mesh), communication protocols (CAN, Protocol Buffers), embedded Ethernet stacks (TCP/IP, BSD Socket API, HTTPS), and wireless technologies (WiFi, WiFi Mesh, Bluetooth/BLE, BLE-Mesh). You'll work with Espressif ESP-IDF, proficiency in C, cmake, and Python. Lab experience with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers is expected.
Ideal candidates have 5+ years delivering firmware for high-volume products where 24/7 communications reliability was critical. You'll be hands-on from concept through production quality, designing with first-principles thinking and owning the entire product lifecycle. The role emphasizes innovation, reliability, and impact on the clean energy transition.
