Salary: GBP 31,100 - 39,350 / annual

Monzo is seeking a Senior Financial Crime Investigator to join its Financial Crime Customer Operations team, which serves as the frontline defence against fraud, money laundering, and financial crime. This role focuses on the merchant acquiring and business banking pillar, protecting Monzo's customers and business integrity through rigorous investigations, risk management, and regulatory compliance. You will conduct comprehensive Know Your Business (KYB) checks on new and existing customers, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and internal policies. Key responsibilities include reviewing customer documentation such as merchant applications, financial statements, legal agreements, and beneficial ownership information; evaluating the adequacy and accuracy of customer-provided information; and performing risk assessments based on established criteria. You'll investigate and resolve red flags, inconsistencies, or suspicious activities identified during customer due diligence, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Compliance, Legal, and Risk to obtain additional information or clarify discrepancies. You must stay updated on evolving local and payment industry regulations, card scheme rules, and best practices to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of customer due diligence activities with complete audit trails; assisting in the development and enhancement of KYB policies, procedures, and tools specific to the payments industry; providing training and support to team members on KYB processes and emerging trends; and reporting potential cases of money laundering, fraud, or suspicious activities to the Financial Crime Risk Team and relevant authorities. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9AM–5:30PM, with one full weekend shift (Saturday and Sunday) once every four weeks and two set days in lieu (not required for the first few months). Start date is Monday, 9 November 2026.
